Truth About Dangerous Dogs, Primitive Hounds And Wolfdogs

I recently stumbled into a forum where a heated debate was raging over the matter of dangerous wolf-dog hybrids and so-called dangerous dog breeds. Everybody had plenty to say and the conversations (arguments more like) ricocheted back and forth like bullets slicing across a battle field. One thread of conversation in particular caught my eye because the commentator seemed very insistent about the very real danger posed by wolf-dog hybrids to the “unwitting, unaware, innocent public” (his words not mine). Anyway he digressed some to vent about the reintroduction of wolves into the wild in North America and closed his rant with the ominous warning:  “Watch the bloodbath unfold!”

There’s a saying that follows along the lines that “A little knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance.” Unfortunately far too often this saying plays out to be true and certainly appears to be the case in the much maligned wolf. For way too long the wolf has gotten a bad rap, even up to this day. To the average person on the street the wolf is a blood thirsty raging beast that simply lives to sink its fangs into the nearest person’s succulent flesh! Nothing could be farther from the truth but to this day the myth prevails; a myth that probably owes its origins to Hollywood and the film industry. Another species that experienced the same fate was the Gorilla as part of the fallout from the first King Kong movie. Luckily it is now known that Gorillas are exceptionally gentle creatures not the man killing machines they were once perceived to be. The wolf however has not been so lucky and just can’t seem to lose the blood thirsty image.
