Excellent article, but I find this is a very narrow-minded and discriminated comment which I just quoted.

I am a Chinese, have lived in German for 1 year, Hungary for 1 year, Canada for 10 years, travel around the world, and now I am in China, with 3 dogs… 9 yrs old, 7 yrs old, and 3 years old, they have been with me since they were puppies.

I have seen the good the bad and the ugly in every country. There are puppy mills, backyard breeder, junks who abused dogs in every country. My 7 yrs old Rottweiler mix has 1 eye blind because he was abused when he was puppy, his owner who stabed him….is a Canadian.

I do not like… actually I HATE the way they treat dogs in China, but there are so many who love dogs, who treat dogs like their kids, their best friends. I know a 24 yrs old girl who rescued 7 dogs from the restaurants and treated them with all her heart, because of the dogs, her boyfirend left her…

So what I am trying to say is, it’s people, not the country. it’s who you send your dog(s) to, no matter which country.

Terrific article on the greyhound! I have 2 greyhounds both ex-racers and adopted from rescue shelters. They are the sweetest dogs and it really is such a shame that thousands of these wonderful dogs die needlessly every year.

If anyone out there is thinking of getting a dog anytime soon please consider getting adopting a greyhound from a shelter.

Thanks for that comment Mom-of-godiva. You are probably right, the greyhound dog in the picture appears to be too heavily built for an NGA racing specimen…i just liked the photo!

This is an excellent recounting of the history of the greyhound. Thank you for all your excellent research and heartfelt comments. I suspect, however, that the photo of the greyhound above is not an NGA racing greyhound, but rather an AKC one. I could be wrong, but the AKCs have larger chests and are a bit heavier. This one looks like an AKC.

Regardless, NGA racing greyhounds continue to be slaughtered! Let’s end greyhound racing. “You bet, they die!”
